Nestled in the heart of Waikari, New Zealand, End Of The Line Cafe 23 is a charming coffee shop that perfectly captures the spirit of a welcoming country stop. Situated conveniently at 8a Weka Pass Road, this delightful café offers more than just a caffeine fix—it’s a cozy refuge for travelers, locals, and anyone looking to savor high-quality comfort food in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
What truly sets End Of The Line Cafe 23 apart is the genuine friendliness of its staff. Customers consistently praise the warmth and attentiveness of the team, describing greetings that feel like catching up with a long-lost friend rather than a quick transaction. This authentic hospitality shines through in every interaction, creating an environment that’s as comforting as the food and drinks served.
The menu showcases classic café staples done exceptionally well. Simon Tam fondly recalls enjoying a hearty Mince on Toast—two slices of perfectly toasted bread topped with a generous, flavorful portion of mince that satisfies more than just hunger. It’s the kind of dish that brings a nostalgic taste of home cooking with a satisfying, savory kick. Alongside this, the café offers a variety of indulgent pies and fresh-baked cheese toast rolls that have won the hearts of regular visitors. The coffee, while modest in one review, is frequently mentioned as a bright start to any visit, harmonizing beautifully with any sweet or savory bite you choose.
End Of The Line Cafe 23 also boasts comfortable seating options indoors and outdoors, allowing guests to unwind regardless of the weather. On sunny days, the back outdoor area provides a peaceful spot to sit and soak up the gentle New Zealand sun after a refreshing stop on your journey. Many customers, including Nigel Hembury and Warren Jowett, highlight this as the perfect pause on a long drive—refreshing and revitalizing, with quick service that respects your time without sacrificing quality or friendliness.
One of the cafe’s subtle but appreciated virtues lies in its immaculate cleanliness—an often overlooked detail that adds to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the space. Anne Kerin’s comments about the spotless facilities and well-maintained surroundings underline the pride this establishment takes in presenting a top-notch experience from every angle.
Whether you’re a local seeking a reliable favorite or a traveler stopping by on the way to Hammer Spring, End Of The Line Cafe 23 welcomes you with open arms. From the smell of fresh coffee brewing to the satisfying crunch of toasted cheese rolls and the cozy chatter between customers and staff, this café doesn’t just serve food and drinks—it offers a heartfelt pause in your day that leaves you feeling nourished, both physically and emotionally.

Stop there for lunch on the way to Hammer Spring. I was greeted by a very pleasant lady with a big welcoming smile. I ordered my usual Americano and the Mince on toast. My coffee was ok but the Mince on toast has a good quantity of tasty mince on two pieces of toasted bread. Will stop there again next time on the way to Hammer Spring to try their pies.

Edited by myself (Kerry) on 7/12/25- I was not part of a GROUP that you want to collectively put me in for your benefit- I was a SINGULAR person that came in and ordered 2 ,so get your facts straight. You did NOT tip out any milkshakes for me as we didnt taste them until outside but you unsavoury reply just justifies my initial comment that your milkshakes are useless as we were obviously not the only ones unhappy. You too… have a Very Merry Christmas Even if this is the “end of the Line” don’t waste your money on a “thick” shake here,it’s warm and runny as water, waste of $8 @

Lovely cafe, nice & warm, both temperature & the welcoming staff. Pie & coffee was great on this winters day. Nice area outside, at the back to sit when the sun returns.

End of The Line Café is a delightful gem and a must-visit every time I'm in Waikari, whether it's for a coffee and delicious slice or a tasty scoop of hot chips. The atmosphere feels just like home—warm, welcoming, and cozy. The staff always greet you with genuine friendliness and take the time to get to know their customers, making every visit special. I've visited during busy times when the Weka Pass Railway train was at the Waikari Station, and the café consistently maintained their excellent and speedy service. This lovely spot will continue to be a regular stop for me, and I wholeheartedly recommend you drop in to enjoy the experience yourself.
